Two for Tuesday
Trinity Ace & Kacey Musgraves...Laugh or Cry or Vice Versa
For this week’s Two for Tuesday, I’m spotlighting two fresh tracks worth your time—starting with San Francisco artist Trinity Ace and her hypnotic new single “Algae Bloom.” Written as the final song for her debut EP Learning to Be a Cowboy on the Horse That Broke My Arm (out May 15), it carries what she calls a “sweet and sad” tone—like a last waltz with a sense of melancholic optimism. Inspired by a motel stay with her dad and an algae bloom in Louisiana, plus the surreal influence of late-night televangelist broadcasts, the track blends comfort and unease in equal measure. As Trinity Ace explains, “I wanted it to feel off-putting and satisfying at the same time,” a tension that lingers as the song circles back through its haunting refrain.

The second song is “Dry Spell” by Kacey Musgraves, a bold, wink-heavy anthem about going way too long without sex—and not being shy about it. Loaded with razor-sharp innuendo and laugh-out-loud puns, Musgraves leans all the way into the bit, delivering a tongue-in-cheek cry for relief that’s as catchy as it is unfiltered. It’s the kind of song that rewards listeners who are fully in on the joke, balancing humor with just enough honesty to hit home. The track appears on her upcoming album Middle of Nowhere, due May 1, and it’s easily one of her most playful releases yet.
