Spring Fever for New Music
F/FF/RW #6 :: Featuring new and old music this week from Roo Panes, Eilen Jewell, Ally Venable, Buddy Guy, Caroline Rose, Charlie Hickey, Alice Phoebe Lou, The White Stripes & Sinead O'Connor
I’m looking forward to listening to many albums that are released this week. First and foremost, one of my absolute favorite musicians going Caroline Rose. Her new one is titled The Art of Forgetting. I’ve already featured a few songs from the record and can’t wait to hear the rest. So many albums so little time…here are the ones lined up first in my queue:
Caroline Rose - THE ART OF FORGETTING
Roo Panes - THE SUMMER ISLES
The Natural Lines (Matt Pond PA “new” band) - THE NATURAL LINES
Depeche Mode - MEMENTO MORI
Mehro - DARK CORNERS AND ALCHEMY
Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer and Shahzad - LOVE IN EXILE
Lana Del Rey - DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE’S A TUNNEL UNDER OCEAN BLVD.
Dom Flemons - TRAVELING WILDFIRE
Ally Venable - REAL GONE
“Sometimes, we just get so trapped in our own lives and our own little orbits. Sometimes the thing that we need is for someone that loves us to call and make sure we’re eating.” ~ Caroline Rose

1958 - At 6.35 am, Elvis Presley reported to the Memphis draft board. From there Elvis and twelve other recruits were taken by bus to Kennedy Veterans Memorial Hospital where the singer was assigned army serial number 53310761.
1962 - Mick Jagger and Keith Richards perform their first paid gig when they appear as Little Boy Blue & the Blue Boys at a club in Ealing, England.
1973 - In Buffalo, New York, as Lou Reed got ready to play the classic Velvet Underground tune "Waitin' For The Man”, a crazed fan — screaming, "Leather!" — evaded security, jumped on stage, and bit Reed on the buttocks. The fan was ejected, and Reed commented afterward that the U.S. "seems to breed real animals." Here’s one of my favorite new artists, Alice Phoebe Lou, covering Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side”:
1985 - The number one song in the USA was “Easy Lover” by Phil Collins and Philip Bailey.
1992 - A Chicago court settled the Milli Vanilli class action suit by approving cash rebates of up to $3 to anyone proving they bought the group's music before Nov. 27, 1990, the date the lip-synching scandal broke.
2000 - Jack and Meg White of The White Stripes get divorced shortly after releasing their second album, De Stijl. Despite the split, the band stayed together until 2011. Here’s one of my all-time underrated White Stripes’ tracks “You Don’t Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You’re Told)”:

This week in 1990, Sinead O’Connor went to No.1 on the UK album chart with 'I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got', featuring the single 'Nothing Compares To You. Also No.1 in 13 other countries and six weeks at No.1 in the US. One of the most beautiful songs of all time. We all need someone that says nothing compares to you. It’s a human need.
